Dechene, Edmonton
Dechene is a small community located in the west end of edmonton located south of callingwood road (62 avenue) and contained in the arching Lessard road (178 street); its west boundary is 184 street. It is primarily single family homes with a small adult condo bungalow complex and some commercial which includes a Tim Hortons and a Sobeys grocery store. Most of Dechene's appealing keyhole crescents and curving, quiet streets date from the 1980s, with a second phase of development in the late 90's. Area households, of which over 50 percent are families with children at home, are a short drive from the wide variety of commercial and entertainment services of West Edmonton Mall.
In the middle of the community is Good Shepherd catholic school (k-6) which has a unique design and concept as it was designed to be an open school. The playground area at Good Shepherd services the community as do the soccer fields. Adjacent to Good Shepherd is S. Bruce Smith public junior high school. It is a quiet and small community with excellent accessibility to amenities. Aprroximate drive time to downtown is about 20 minutes. It is considered a good family community and represents one of the better values in the west end for housing.
