Aside from this enormous tourist attraction, West Edmonton also offers many more modest attractions that make it a leading area in the city, both for residing and visiting. Notable outdoor areas include Callingwood Park, Westridge Park, and the Fort Edmonton Footbridge, which crosses the meandering waters of the North Saskatchewan River connecting Wolf Willow Ravine and Fort Edmonton Park. Visitors can enjoy walking and hiking trails, as well as canoeing and walking the dog. Edmonton Country Club, which is also situated close to the river, is a popular destination for the golf lovers of Edmonton.

Local Access and Public Transportation

Commuting is made easy in West Edmonton with Whitemund Drive, for east and west commuting, and Anthony Henday Drive, for north and south commuting. West Edmonton is about a 20-minute commute from Downtown Edmonton. Commuters have several different choices for reaching the downtown core, including the use of Stony Plain Road, 104 Avenue or 107 Avenue. Public transit routes are quite convenient from West Edmonton to Downtown Edmonton. The 100 bus is a popular route that runs directly from West Edmonton Mall into Downtown Edmonton.

Education: Elementary and Secondary Schools

When living in West Edmonton, their are many schools, both public and private, to choose from for your child's education. Some of the best rated schools in Edmonton are located in the West end, including Crestwood School, Michael A. Kostek and Rio Terrace School. Aldergrove School is a medium-sized public elementary school that serves the West Edmonton community, educating students from kindergarten to grade 6. Thorncliffe School is another option for a public elementary school, and is located in the Thorncliffe neighbourhood. Archbishop Oscar Romero High School is a Catholic school located in the Callingwood neighbourhood of West Edmonton, and Jasper Place High School is a public school in the Meadowlark Park neighbourhood near West Edmonton Mall.
