Larkspur was named after an ornamental wildflower that blooms in many colours. All neighbourhoods in the Meadows area are named after plants and flowers. A pipeline corridor runs the north to south length of the neighbourhood, which has been transformed into a linear park through Larkspur. The neighbourhood began developing in the late 1980s, and was still actively under construction in the 2000s.
