Akinsdale Location

Akinsdale is located on the very eastern edge of St. Albert, only separated from Edmonton by Anthony Henday Dr. The community is neighboured by Pineview on the north side, Forest Lawn and Sturgeon Heights on the west side, Grandin to the south side and the city of Edmonton on the east side. The streets that set its borders include Hebert Rd, Boudreau Rd, Campbell Rd, Anthony Henday Dr and St. Albert Trail. Akinsdale is one of four areas in St. Albert with a higher rate of rental units compared with other neighbourhoods, with multiple-family dwellings comprising 20% of all homes in the community.

Akinsdale Schools

There is one school in Akinsdale, Elmer S. Gish School. This Kindergarten to grade 9 public elementary and junior high school offers Global, Cogito and Logos programs to its students, who each have the opportunity to choose the course best suited to them. Both the Global and Cogito systems run from grades K-9 while the Logos Christian Education program only runs for junior high students from grades 5-9.

Akinsdale Restaurants and Amenities

Akinsdale holds several parks within its borders including Arcand Park, Ainsley Park, Attwood Park, Alderwood Park, Arbor Park, Amherst Park, Amber Park and the focal Alpine Park. Alpine Park holds most recreational facilities in the area and houses a park rink, baseball diamond, soccer field, two basketball courts, a tennis court and one of St. Albert's few Clubhouses. Further south is the Akinsdale & Kinex Arenas and in the southern corner of the community is the Gateway Village Shopping Centre. This complex has shops like Safeway and Real Canadian Superstore along with places to eat like A&W, KFC, Little Caesars Pizza and Ohana-Ya Japanese.
