Downtown arguably has the best stretch of restaurants in all of St. Albert. When residents of the city want a bite to eat they travel to Downtown and walk along the triangle of streets made up by St. Anne St, Perron St and St. Thomas St. Restaurants and bars found in this area include Blind Pig Pub, Capital Pizza & Steakhouse, Taste of Tuscany, Jimmy’s, The Cajun House, Ric’s Grill, Jack’s Burger Shack, Sanremo Italian Bistro, Luisa Ristorante, Grand Lux Lounge and My Pizza. There is no shortage of places to grab a bite in Downtown St. Albert. The main area of St. Anne St and Perron St sees four different buses pass through it. The A1, A11, A14 and A21 all cross through this intersection.

Schools in Downtown St. Albert

The Downtown area only has one school within the direct vicinity, École Father Jan Community School. This Catholic elementary is the only French Immersion primary school in the separate system and offers French Immersion classes for grades K-6, a Sports Academy program for grades 4-6, a full day every day Kindergarten and a full day alternating Kindergarten.

Who Lives Downtown?

Downtown St. Albert has a combined population of 457, by far the lowest of any of the communities in the region, but not surprising considering its size. This is still a growth of 147 from the last city census, however the vast majority of the Downtown population is over the age of 65, making Downtown the only St. Albert neighbourhood to have more than half of its resident comprised of retirees.

Despite the fact that Downtown has a higher rate of rental units than many other communities in St. Albert with 31%, there are still plenty of fantastic homes to be had in the area. Downtown is the cultural hub of the city and is perfect for those who don’t want to own a car just to get from place to place.
