Jackson Heights, Edmonton real estate listings

South East Edmonton

Overview

In 1976 the community of Jackson Heights was given its name for Annie May Jackson, the first female police officer in the history of Canada. She made waves when her photo appeared on the London Daily Mirror’s first page and her fame followed her through her time in Edmonton. This triangular neighbourhood is bordered by Kiniski Gardens to the south, Larkspur to the east and Greenview to the west and is a nice mixture of residential and commercial.

With the Annie May Jackson Park directly in the centre of the community, the Jackie Parker Recreation Area directly to the west and the Mill Creek running through the south, there is an abundance of natural green spaces in Jackson Heights. Residences are spread out from around the park, spiralling out along the streets all named for prominent Edmonton figures whose names started with ‘J.’ Annie May Jackson Park has two full sized soccer fields, a baseball diamond and a playground while the Jackie Parker Recreational Area has several playgrounds, a lake and a spray park. There are several restaurants spread throughout the community, including Rasoi, Pizza Hut and Mary Brown’s Famous Chicken & Taters. Two busses service the area, with both the 68 and 72 travelling through the community on different routes.

Jackson Heights Schools

There is only one school in the Jackson Heights community, and it is the aptly named Jackson Heights School. The closest junior high is Kate Chegwin School with classes for grades 7-9 and the closest secondary school is W.P. Wagner School with classes for grades 10-12.
