The Southeast Edmonton community of Kenilworth is primarily residential neighbourhood with a strong commercial section running along 82 Ave NW and three schools in the area. The bordering communities include Ottewell in the north, Idylwylde in the west and King Edward Park. Kenilworth and its neighbouring communities are undergoing gentrification, with newer infill homes replacing the original bungalows on large, mature lots.

Kenilworth Schools

Kenilworth has several schools to service the children of the community. The first is Waverley School, an Early Education public elementary with classes for grades K-6. The Early Education program is designed to teach children who require special assistance to learn important behaviours before they begin Kindergarten. They will learn to share, co-operate and be responsible while at the same time developing a positive attitude. Kenilworth School is the second educational facility in the area. It is a junior high with classes for grades 7-9 in standard and French Immersion. They also offer Behaviour and Learning Assistance and Literacy programs. The third school is the French language École Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc at Kenilworth Field.

Kenilworth Amenities and Transportation

The majority of features for residents of Kenilworth and confined to 82 Ave NW on the south side of the community, which includes restaurants like Red Diamond House, Sabu Sushi Bar, Burger Baron and Newcastle Pub & Grill. In the middle of the community are two parks: Kenilworth Field and Kenilworth Park. Kenilworth Field has a baseball diamond, soccer field and Figure 8 Skating Club as well as the multi-use recreational Kenilworth Arena. Kenilworth Park has some additional sports fields and diamonds as well as playgrounds, a spray park and the Kenilworth Community League Hall.

Several busses pass through Kenilworth. The 80 bus travels from east to west via 86 Ave NW and north to south via 75 St NW. Other busses that circle the community’s borders include 4 on the west side, 82 on the south side, 84 on the east side and the 4, 85 and 307 on the north side.
