Medeski Martin & Wood will be headlining the festival this year. They are known for appealing to people who "aren't that into jazz." They've been making music together since the early 90's, and are known for diversifying their sound by adding unique percussion instruments and other sounds such as the electric piano and Hammond B3 organ.

Guitar Guru John Scofield Makes an Appearance

Joining the Medeski Martin & Wood trio on stage will be John Scofield. The guitarist is known for incorporating reggae, funk, rock and soul elements into jazz. He has been working as a performer since the 70's and has developed a very distinct sound. He is a master improviser and has even toured with jazz great Miles Davis. He has also recorded over 30 albums, and first collaborated with Medeski Martin & Wood in 1998. He promises to bring a unique perspective to the improvisations on stage.

Who is the Edmonton Jazz Festival Society?

The people responsible for putting this lineup together and making the festival happen are a group of Edmontonians known as the Edmonton Jazz Festival Society. They are primarily focused on expanding the love and understanding of jazz music in Edmonton, as well as connecting jazz musicians provincially, nationally and throughout the world. They were formed in 2005 and have worked together to produce many festivals, workshops and events year after year that inspire Edmontonians to nurture their love of jazz music.
